A LiPo pack that lives at 3.85V per cell in a cool cupboard will outlast one left fully charged in a hot car by years.
Lithium polymer packs are the reason modern RC cars are quick, and they are also the part people damage fastest. Almost every early failure comes from one of three things: charging too fast, storing fully charged, or running the pack flat.
Charge at 1C unless you are in a hurry. A 5000mAh pack means 5 amps. Charging at 2C on a 45 degree afternoon in Chennai or Nagpur will heat the pack well past the 60 degree mark where the electrolyte starts breaking down permanently.
Never leave a pack at full charge overnight. Every decent charger has a storage mode that takes the cells to roughly 3.85V each. Use it if the pack will sit for more than two days. This single habit typically doubles pack life.
Set your ESC low-voltage cutoff to 3.3V per cell and respect it. Pulling a 2S pack below 6.0V total will cause puffing, and a puffed pack never fully recovers.
Store packs in a fireproof bag or a steel ammo box, away from direct sun, and never inside a parked car. If a pack swells, feels hot, or the case is punctured, stop using it. Discharge it fully into a resistive load, submerge in salt water for 24 hours and dispose of it at an e-waste collection point.
