Drifting an RC car is throttle control, not steering. Here is a practice ladder that gets you linking corners in a weekend.
Everyone starts the same way: full throttle, full steering lock, and a car spinning on the spot. The fix is boring and it works. Slow everything down and build the skill in stages.
Stage one is the circle. Find a smooth flat surface, set a bottle in the middle, and hold a constant radius slide around it. Do not chase speed. You are training your thumb to hold a steady partial throttle and your other thumb to counter-steer before the car needs it.
Stage two is the figure of eight. This teaches transition, the moment where the car swaps from one slide direction to the other. Lift slightly, let the chassis settle, then feed power back in as the car crosses the middle.
Stage three is the linked corner. Set out four cones as a small course and try to enter each corner already sideways, using the exit of the previous one. This is where drifting stops feeling like a trick and starts feeling like driving.
Setup helps. Run hard plastic or ABS tyres, add a little more rear toe-in for stability, and dial in around 8-12 degrees of steering angle if your car supports it. Turn the steering rate on your transmitter down to about 70 percent while you are learning; it makes over-correction almost impossible.
Practice on a surface with consistent grip. Polished concrete, smooth tiles or a clean basketball court are ideal. Rough tarmac will punish you for mistakes you have not learned to avoid yet.
